According to the British Embassy, the competition is designed to encourage young women to become leaders and activists. France plans to withdraw troops from Mali

The withdrawal comes as relations between France and Mali's military government have deteriorated. Macron plans to reduce 5,000 French troops in the Sahel.  The French news agency AFP reports that Macron's announcement will put an end to nine years of French troops in Mali ahead of a European Union-Africa summit in Brussels. In 2013, France began sending troops to fight jihadists in northern Mali.  However, in 2015, jihadists again stormed central Mali and launched attacks in neighboring Niger and Burkina Faso.

FIBA 2022: D'Tigress has gotten the opportunity to join basketball World Cup in Australia

Nigerian Youth and Sports Minister Sunday Dare has congratulated the country's women's basketball team on their World Cup ticket. D'Tigress beat Mali in a qualifier in Belgrade, Serbia, 73-69, to secure a place in the tournament.  Ahead of the match D'Tigress beat France, ranked fifth in the world, 67-65, after losing to China. The sports minister lauded the players, saying Nigeria was proud of them. The FIBA 2022 tournament will kick off in September in Sydney, Australia. Prior to the tournament, there were disagreements between the players and the Nigerian authorities, after they threatened not to attend the qualifiers for not paying their previous tournament allowances.  D'Tigress has won the African Cup of Nations three times, and is the only one from the continent to have represented Africa.
